Stephenson's like a "Rocket" - winning yet again

30 Seniors, probably inspired by chips and sandwiches for FREE, tackled the Lakes Course on a very, very warm and draining day and with the course, all things considered, in excellent condition.

After much munching and story telling, Captain John announced the result, this being:
1st Pete Stephenson 42 pts (yes, 42 points)
2nd Mike Whitington 36 pts on count back
3rd Les Vine 36 pts

The Lakes again showed the Seniors who is boss - with only the above 3 playing to handicap or better

2019 Tom Lambert Trophy

Knight shines in the day to win

38 Seniors, principally inspired chips and sandwiches for £2, tackled the Lakes Course with a 2 tee start on a very pleasant day and with the course in excellent condition. Those requiring a drink dutifully waited for "Ali" to eventually serve them (PS that was the last time we will see him as he is retiring).

After much munching and story telling, Captain Paul announced the result, this being:
1st Henry Knight 39 pts
2nd Chris Watchorn 35 pts
3rd David Toule 34 pts

The Lakes again showed the Seniors who is boss - with only Henry playing to his handicap or better

As always after these events we need to thank our lucky stars we have such excellent organisers in our midst and in no particular order, Phil Turrell, Paul Stanley, John Browne, Colin Thornton et al deserve our thanks.

2018 Tom Lambert Trophy

Daynes Deigns to Win

41 Seniors, motivated by chips and sandwiches for £2, progressed around the Woods Course in the warm but breezy summer day, finally collapsing in Stantons for a long drink and the aforementioned "prize".

Eventually with everyone fed and watered Captain David announced the inhabitants of the winners' enclosure which were:
1st Chris Daynes 42 pts
2nd Chris Watchorn 39 pts
3rd Tin (Chris) Win 38 pts

With perfect timing a new member, Rob Gillion (that's not an order), joined us and will obviously expect chips and sandwiches after every round now - sorry Rob, this is "The Seniors" you'll be lucky to get iced water in future with these tight wads!

Anyway I'm sure we'll all make Rob very welcome over the coming weeks (especially if he buys the teas).

As always after these events we need to thank our lucky stars we have such excellent organisers in our midst and in no particular order, Phil Turrell, Paul Stanley, John Browne, Colin Thornton et al deserve our thanks.

Winner - Ken Claxon 43 Points

Wednesday 16 August

Very pleasant conditions on the Woods Course, sunny, little wind and the promise of sandwiches and chips for £2, brought out 41 Seniors. They were not disappointed as 17 of them managed to play to or better their handicap.
Top Three:
1. Ken Claxon 43 points
2. Tin Win 41 points
3. Phil Stannard 41 points

The traditional fare did not disappoint either and our thanks go to Mr Phil Turrell our esteemed organiser and to the Hotel.

2016 Tom Lambert Trophy

Seniors Browned Off
Weather forecast was good, the Woods beckoned and the food was subsidised - 43 Seniors turned up to battle for the Tom Lambert Cup!

But first there was a curtain-raiser "The Battle with the Computer". Nobody could sign in until our resident technician Colin Thornton could tame the beast.

Then it was off round the Woods as quickly as possible to ensure the first groups in didn't scoff all the sandwiches, chips and the most superb fruit cake.

Some quite impressive scores were posted and 17 Seniors played to or bettered their handicap.

The winners enclosure was as follows:
1st John Browne 45 pts (including 2 blobs - not his playing partners)
2nd Tom Lamin 44 pts
3rd Ken Claxon 43 pts

Very well done to them and especially Ken playing off HC of 10.

Also, after a gap of many years, we have a new recipient of the Hugh Keaveney award for service to scoring. Brian Seaman posted his 73 points without a backward glance hoping to get away with it. Unfortunately for him it was a tad obvious and it was amended to something a little more realistic. Bad luck Brian.

House Rules
from our east London furniture rep - "What chair cock?"

Subsidised chips, free coffee and lo, 36 seniors turned up to give the Woodside what for!!

The sight of Tony Slipper going out last of 10 groups cheered everyone up and got the day off to a good start.

The sun shone and the temperatures rose (it got quite warm too). Eventually, without losing too many Seniors, the scores were totted up and the leader board showed some amazing figures. First place went to Del House with 47 (yes, FORTY SEVEN) points, 2nd was a new member Jeff Tooms with a pathetic (as it turned out!) 42 points OCB, closely followed by Mike Whitington also on 42 points.

The drugs test found Del couldn't spell "ASPIRIN" and so extra homework was the order of the day.

Further details to come re The Tom Lambert Trophy, food and funds collected.
