SENIORS' PAIRS COMPETITION - 9 October 2019

PETER PRIOR TROPHY

Winners - Alan Lowen and Norman Tidy

On a lovely sunny Autumn day the golf course was in good condition but the normal confusion reigned as there were 31 players. So Paul Stanley took the honourable action and played as a marker. The overall standard of scoring was also excellent and a fine winning score of 47 points by Alan Lowen and Norman Tidy took the honours.
This included a 3 hole stretch (holes 14, 15 & 16) in which they scored 12 points, including an eagle by Alan on the 16th. It should be noted that Norman also won last year so is obviously "on a roll"

2nd with a creditable 44 points were Pete Cadwallader and Ian Nisbet.

Chaos Reign's in Peter Prior Pairs!

At the start of the day it looked simple for 'stand in'-for-the-day Vice Captain Paul Stanley.
Lakes Course Tees booked, partners drawn (9 fourballs) and all cards written out including handicap allowances.

HOWEVER Lakes Course closed, tee times compressed, 37 people turn up, misunderstandings over the principles of better-ball play, and disagreements over handicap allowances! Seniors golf in other words.

In the end on a lovely sunny Autumn day the golf was good and a fine winning score of 46 points by Mike Whittington and Norman Tidy took the honours.

2nd with a creditable 44 points were Colin Thornton and Mike Gulliford.

As 31 Seniors turned up this year, Ray Woodcock went out as a marker with a 2 ball, so effectively he gave up his option of playing. What a hero!!

It was very blustery day and quite challenging conditions and one interesting pairing was Paul Stanley with Tony Donnelly !! (imagine the comments of match fixing, etc.)

There were bowls of chips for each 4 ball as each team returned to the Claret Jug, which were heartily consumed – especially at no charge.

The weather forecast may have limited the field slightly to 13 drawn pairs.

The bookies favorite after the draw Peter Stephenson and Gary Waterfield proved the pundits right and came in with a highly commendable 46 points.

Norman Tidy and Danny Pang were just a Length behind with 43 Points.

David Toule and Mike Gulliford beat several others by a short head on count back with 40 points .

Well done all those taking part.

PETER PRIOR TROPHY

From Peter Prior Pairs 2015

Pat Stanford and Mike Whitington Winners 2015

Some 30 Seniors ventured out on a cooler morning which meant one pair had to go round chaperoned by Tony Donnelly (a double-whammy indeed).

The teams were drawn and announced and several gasps followed some of the announcements - presumably in awe of their potential rather than fear of what they might do to one another?

Anyway the Woodside greens were still recovering from their recent tining and sanding so putting had to be more "enthusiastic" than "careful".

Despite this the top three pairs came home with reasonable scores and the winners' enclosure was as follows:
3rd on countback with 41 points - John Browne/John Billot
2nd ditto - Gary Waterfield/Ken Claxon
1st with 42 points - Pat Stanford/Mike Whitington

Very well done to them and I guess most would agree it was good to play a different format once in a while.
